New electricity tariff: NERC asks Discos to refund overbilled customers

Image
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has directed power distribution companies to refund all overbilled Band B customers by April 11. This directive to the electricity distribution companies on implementation of the April 2024 supplementary Multi-Year Tariff Order was released on Saturday. The directive came amid complaints from customers not on Band A, who are now being made to pay N225/KWh for electricity. On Wednesday, the Federal Government said it would no longer pay subsidy on electricity consumed by Band A customers, but others would continue to pay the old rates. However, as DisCos upgraded their payment platforms, some customers on Band B, C, D, and E said they were made to pay N225/KWh instead of the old tariff. As a result, the NERC said it had directed all electricity distribution companies to refund the affected customers. See full report  PUNCH NG

Ad revenue is a primary source of income for many YouTubers. YouTube runs ads on videos and shares a portion of the revenue generated with content creators through the YouTube Partner Program. The amount of ad revenue earned per view can fluctuate based on factors like ad formats, viewer demographics, and ad performance. The average earnings per 1,000 views (CPM) can range from a few dollars to several tens of dollars, but it can be higher or lower depending on the niche and audience. In addition to ad revenue, creators with a large subscriber base often attract brand partnerships and sponsorships

Nigeria’s electricity, fuel subsidies may gulp N7tn – IMF

Image
The International Monetary Fund has said Nigeria may incur an expenditure of around N7trn should the existing fuel pump price cap and electricity subsidy be upheld in 2024. The fund also stated that the current administration inherited a challenging economic situation characterised by low growth, diminished revenue collection, escalating inflation, and longstanding external imbalances, stressing that the continued capping fuel pump prices and electricity tariffs below their recovery costs could lead Nigeria to incur fiscal costs of up to three per cent of its Gross Domestic Product in 2024. “The capping of fuel pump prices and electricity tariffs below cost recovery could have a fiscal cost of up to 3 per cent of GDP in 2024,” IMF stated in a statement following a recent visit by an IMF team led by Axel Schimmelpfennig, the IMF Mission Chief for Nigeria.
